We’re clearing the air in the Dallas Zoo. To eliminate secondhand smoke exposure for our guests, animals and staff, we will become a smoke-free park beginning Oct. 1, 2014.
The new policy includes cigarettes, pipes, cigars, and alternative smoking devices, such as e-cigarettes or “vaping.” Guests may smoke or use e-cigs only in designated areas outside of the main and south entry gates. Hand stamps will be provided to ensure easy re-entry. Signs throughout the park will notify guests of the new policy.
Smoking already had been restricted throughout much of the Zoo, including the Lacerte Family Children’s Zoo and other areas. Many outdoor parks and open-air venues have implemented similar policies, including more than two-thirds of zoos accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).
We realize that some guests will be inconvenienced by the change, but we appreciate your understanding and support as we improve the Zoo experience for all guests.
